Queenstown Harbor and Director of Golf and Grounds John Anderes III CGCS were the hosts for the annual combined meeting of the ESAGCS and MAAGCS and Chesapeake Challenge. Some seventy five plus superintendents, industry partners and friends were on hand for the meeting. We were pleased to have the CGSAA’s Chava McKeel as our guest speaker. Chava is the CGSAA’s associate director of government relations. Here is a recap of the event:
Meeting:
Chava talked to the group about many of the latest topics of government regulations and relations that affect our industry. Below is a brief breakdown of the presentation with a link to the file:
- GCSAA government relations works with local and national governments to ensure the associations voice is heard during the process of creating legislation of interest to the association.
- Along with the GCSAA government relations page (LINK) the association provides online quarterly briefings and a newsletter “designed to help those involved in golf course management stay informed about laws and regulations that affect the profession and GCSAA government relations activities.”
- The Grassroots Ambassador program is taking off. The program matches superintendents with government officials in order to increase opportunities for advocacy and the improvement of government relations. The program currently has 165 ambassadors and is hoping to have 300+ by year end.
- There are currently a handful of issues and looming regulations that could directly affect our industry such as EPA pesticide reviews, incident reporting, glyphosate use, worker protections, certifications, and pollinators. One of the largest issues is the new WOTUS legislation, with this update at the time of this posting.
We thank Chava for taking the time to speak to the group. We especially appreciate her hard work in our behalf.
